GENERAL CONTEST
INFORMATION
Welcome to the CPS Combined Charities Campaign Cover and Poster Design contest!
OBJECTIVE:
To make students aware of the vital role everyone plays in making change possible. It seeks to make students realize the true meaning of “community”, which is a living entity made up of individuals like them, and that everyone has the potential to make an impact on the world.
THEME
The 2009 CCC campaign theme is “Because WE care…” Students are required to address this theme in their artwork, showing how individuals, family, friends, schools, neighborhoods, etc. can effect change through concrete actions. Be creative. There are many ways people can show they care about their community, school, family, friends.
PRIZES
Winning designs become the booklet covers and posters for the upcoming Combined Charities Campaign that kicks off in April 2009. These materials are distributed to over 60,000 CPS employees. The names of the prizewinners will be featured on their artworks. In addition, winning and runners up will be prominently displayed at CPS Headquarters during the month of March.
Three first place winners will be chosen – one each from the elementary, middle and high school divisions.
Grades K – 6 Winner
Scholarship for one Spring or Summer course in The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Young Artist Studio.
Grades 7 – 8 Winner
Scholarship for one Spring or Summer course in The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Young Artist Studio.
High School Winner
Scholarship for one Spring or Summer course in The School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Early College Program.

RULES
ELIGIBILITY
The contest is open to all students in all CPS schools, K through 12. There is no limit to the number of students that can enter, either per class or per school.
TIMELINE:
CONTEST BEGINS: September 1, 2008
DEADLINE January 15, 2008 – submissions must be at CPS Headquarters
Mail Room by 5 pm.
WINNER NOTIFIED: February 15, 2008
ARTWORK
Two-dimensional artworks in all mediums will be accepted. Two-dimensional basically means artworks that are flat (such as drawings, paintings
Maximum size: 18” x 24”
Works may be in Black and White or color. However, printed materials may be produced in Black and White.
The inclusion of the theme words “Because we care…” in the artwork is entirely at the student’s discretion.
SUBMISSIONS
Materials should be submitted via CPS internal mail. Place entries in an envelope addressed to: Art Contest, Combined Charities Campaign, c/- CPS Mail Room, GSR: 125. To have artwork returned via CPS internal mail, include self addressed envelope.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The judges for the Contest will consist of three (3) representatives from The School of the Art Institute. Creativity, design, and relation to theme are among the primary determinants. Judges will not be informed of student’s name, age or school. Decisions are final.
